poor

When I was young I used to think,
That when people said 'make ends meet,'
They were saying 'make ends meat.'
And it meant something totally unlinked,
It meant you were so poor,
That you'd steal right out the butcher's door.
It meant that without a second blink,
You'd steal the ends of meat for dinner,
And tendon's tougher than the hardest sinner.
