I used to think when I was young,
That age was something you contracted.
It was a disease, like ebola, and was very contagious,
Catch it and your face would be impacted.
Wrinkles, you see, and poor eyesight,
So I'd avoid the elderly with all my might.
I'd run past them,
And hold my breath,
Always fearful of carriers of death.
Now I'm older and it seems to me,
That aging is just a part of life.
But truth be told, what if it were true?
What if aging simply infects me and you?

  1. That’s actually sad, the grandparents just love the child, but the child was selfish and wanted to stay young.

    1. Being scared isn’t selfish, if you don’t know better. If the fears had been said outloud, the truth would have been soothing and freeing. Children have these unselfish fears all the time, it’s normal. I’m sure he felt guilty about it when he got older and understood better. And the “old people” probably just thought he was extra shy – something most people understand about little ones.
